Chinas Soul

These pictures are from my travels to China in 2018, where I first started the project about the lives of migrant workers in China.
I had several contacts (activists, authors, musicians) that were so kind to show me the country and its hidden force and soul.
Its workers.
During my stay of 4 weeks, I tried to document some stories of migrant workers. It was one of my first tries on a documentary project and I now am reflecting more critically on this project which is why I created another body of this work including more in-depth research combined with interviews that I can't publish yet. (2021)
I understand and I am aware of the issues of me being a visitor in this country and the role I take in as a photographer. I can't grasp these individual stories without being a part of the community and I faced several problems with this and also the fact that I'm not allowed to talk about the people I met and talked with to get around the places.
